Why Choose Mahabaleshwar for Your Honeymoon
While there are plenty of honeymoon destinations in Maharashtra, Mahabaleshwar stands out as a destination that ticks all the right boxes. From breathtaking natural beauty, pleasant climate, a variety of attractions, and tons of accommodations, this hill station has everything a couple could ask for.
Having experienced its charm firsthand, I can certainly vouch for the magical moments it offers. Let’s dive into what makes Mahabaleshwar a top choice for honeymooners.
Stay Options from Budget to Luxury
One of the main reasons why many couples choose Mahabaleshwar for honeymoon is because it fits their budget. Mahabaleshwar offers a perfect blend of luxury and affordability, making it an ideal choice for couples planning a budget honeymoon.
Budget was one of the main factors why we chose to honeymoon in Mahabaleshwar. After our wedding ceremony and reception, we had limited funds for our honeymoon. Choosing Mahabaleshwar turned out to be a fantastic decision. We found an excellent farmhouse at reasonable price, allowing us to stay comfortably without stretching our budget.
To save even more, we chose public transport to reach Mahabaleshwar, which left us with extra money to indulge in shopping and fun activities like strawberry picking and boating. This financial flexibility allowed us to enjoy the best of Mahabaleshwar without any compromises.
The total cost of our honeymoon in Mahabaleshwar back in 2012 for 5 days was Rs. 9000/- (US$104). This includes transport, accommodation, shopping, a private rental car, meals and other petty expenses.
However, if you are willing to indulge, you can stay at some of the luxurious hotels and resorts in Mahabaleshwar. This will allow you to enjoy high-end facilities and amenities and spend quality time with your partner.

Scenic Landscape and Peaceful Vibe
Mahabaleshwar’s lush greenery, misty hills, and vibrant landscapes create the perfect setting for romance. The serenity of this hill station has a way of helping couples leave their worries behind and fully immerse themselves in the moment.
From my own experience, being surrounded by ample greenery instantly made us feel relaxed. The farm stay we chose had a charming strawberry and vegetable field, which made our honeymoon stay special in a way.
Walking hand-in-hand through the fields and plucking fresh strawberries was a delightful escape from our usual urban routine—a rare and refreshing experience that made our stay truly special.

Romantic Weather & Privacy for Couples
The climate in Mahabaleshwar plays a significant role in setting the romantic tone for your honeymoon. Whether you prefer the cold temperatures of winter or the monsoon’s misty charm, Mahabaleshwar’s climate makes it an ideal destination for a romantic escape.
We chose to honeymoon in March, just before the onset of summer, and it turned out to be the perfect decision. The weather was pleasantly cool and comfortable, allowing us to explore the town without feeling the intense summer heat.
Plus, it was the tail end of the strawberry season, so we were treated to an abundance of fresh, juicy strawberries throughout our stay—an unforgettable treat for any couple.
For those who enjoy a mistier, romantic atmosphere, Mahabaleshwar during the monsoon season offers fog-covered hills and cascading waterfalls. However, it’s important to be aware of the heavy rains that can sometimes affect travel plans and outdoor activities.

Unique Attractions for Couples
Exploring various attractions is an integral part of the honeymoon experience. Newlyweds love to explore new places and experience them together. Mahabaleshwar is filled with unique attractions that make it an unforgettable honeymoon destination. Whether you’re seeking moments of serenity or breathtaking views, there’s something for every couple.
Venna Lake: We kicked off our romantic adventure with a serene boat ride at Venna Lake. The calm waters and picturesque surroundings made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
Mapro Garden: After our boat ride, we indulged in delicious strawberry milkshakes at Mapro Garden, a treat that we couldn’t get enough of during our stay. It was the perfect way to cool off and take in the lush surroundings.

Panoramic View Points: Mahabaleshwar is known for its lovely viewpoints, and we made sure to visit them all! From Kate’s Point, Arthur’s Seat, and Echo Point, to Sunset Point and Elphinstone Point, each spot offered breathtaking panoramic views of the valleys and hills.
Lingmala Waterfall: We also made a trip to Lingmala Waterfall, but when we visited in March, the waterfall was relatively dry due to the season. While the area was still beautiful and peaceful, it wasn’t as spectacular as it would be during the monsoon months.
Factory-Outlets for Shopping: One of the highlights of our honeymoon was visiting the local factory outlets like Pure Berry’s. Here, we shopped for fresh jams, preserves, syrups, and a variety of berry-based products at factory prices. The prices were much lower than retail, making it a great deal. We brought home several jars of jams and syrups, which became memorable souvenirs from our trip.

Easy Access from Mumbai and Pune
Mahabaleshwar is one of those rare hill stations that feels far from the chaos yet is so easy to reach. Just 3–4 hours from Pune and about 6–7 hours from Mumbai, the drive itself can feel like the prologue to your love story, winding roads, misty turns, and valleys that build the mood.
If you’re not driving, comfortable bus options are available from Dadar, Borivali, and Swargate. Prefer trains? Disembark at Wathar or Satara, then take a short scenic cab ride to the top. However you get there, the journey sets the tone for the days of romance ahead.

This looks and sounds like a wonderful place to visit, but the image that’s stuck in my mind is the strawberry milkshake.
Ah! I guess you will have to suffice with the image because the milkshake is long gone. Thank you visiting the post, Dan.
