Why Mumbai is Perfect for a Staycation

Mumbai isn’t just a city to work in, it’s a city you can escape within. A staycation in Mumbai offers the perfect blend of convenience, luxury, and memorable experiences without the need for long travel.

1. Proximity and Accessibility

One of the biggest perks is how close it is to home. Our Westin staycation was just a short drive away, making it easy to escape the daily grind. Being near shopping hubs like Oberoi Mall and InOrbit Malad also meant we could enjoy city life and leisure without leaving the neighbourhood.

2. Stunning City Views

Even if you don’t leave your room, Mumbai has a lot to offer. From our 22nd-floor room at Westin, we watched the highway and metro moving like tiny ants and worms, and city lights flickering at night, moments that turn an ordinary stay into something special.

3. Luxury Within Reach

A city staycation doesn’t have to compromise on luxury. Westin’s massive breakfast buffet, pool, and spa made the experience feel indulgent while keeping it close to home. The combination of comfort, convenience, and attention to detail makes Mumbai a top choice for staycation places in Mumbai.

4. Ideal for Couples: Staycation Near Mumbai

Whether you’re celebrating an occasion or just want some quality time together, Mumbai city stays or nearby options for couples provide both intimacy and excitement without the planning headaches of a long trip.

How to Plan Your Staycation in Mumbai

A well-planned staycation in Mumbai can turn a simple night away into a memorable experience. Here’s how we approached it, based on our Westin stay, so you can plan yours smoothly.

1. Decide the Duration

We opted for a one-night stay to celebrate a special occasion. For first-timers, even a single night can be enough to enjoy luxury amenities, city views, and quality downtime. If you want a more immersive experience, two nights allow you to explore hotel facilities like the spa, pool, or nearby spots.

2. Choose the Right Hotel for Your Mumbai Staycation

Selecting a hotel depends on what matters most to you, location, amenities, or dining. We chose Westin Mumbai Garden City for its proximity to malls like Oberoi and InOrbit, stunning city views, and luxurious amenities.

3. Set a Budget

Luxury doesn’t always mean unaffordable. Decide what’s non-negotiable (like a high-floor room or special dining experiences) and what you can compromise on. Planning ahead ensures you don’t overspend on unnecessary extras.

4. Consider the Location and View

City view rooms make a staycation feel special. From our 22nd-floor room, we enjoyed watching the metro and highway traffic below, simple pleasures that added to the experience. Proximity to favorite spots like cafes or pubs can also enhance your getaway.

5. Plan Your Meals & Dining Experiences

We skipped lunch at the hotel and visited a nearby pub, then returned for a memorable dinner at Kangan, enjoying Awadhi Murgh Biryani with city lights as our backdrop. Don’t forget to check the breakfast options too, Westin’s buffet alone was worth waking up early for.

6. Focus on Activities

Even if you just want to relax in your room, exploring hotel amenities like the pool, spa, or lounge can make your staycation more fulfilling. We spent some time at the pool area and enjoyed quiet moments in our room, soaking in the views and the city’s rhythm.

7. Plan Around Special Occasions

Celebrations, like birthdays or anniversaries, can make your staycation extra memorable. We tailored our itinerary around Sarah’s birthday, which gave the day a personal touch and made each moment more meaningful.

Why We Chose to Stay at The Westin Mumbai Garden City

Not all staycations are created equal. Our decision to stay at Westin Mumbai Garden City was guided by one goal: turn an ordinary city night into a memorable escape.

A Room with a View

We stayed on the 22nd floor, and the view was mesmerizing. The highway and metro below moved like tiny ants, and city lights flickered in patterns that made us pause and just watch. Even without leaving the room, it felt like a little world of our own.

While the image below doesn’t do justice, imagine yourself with your partner on this window, watching the city go silent and traffic fade and you both having private conversation with not a soul to interrupt.

Quality Moments that Matter

This was more than luxury, it was about quality time. We spent hours talking, laughing, and soaking in the city from our window, celebrating Sarah’s birthday in our own quiet way. The bathtub and plush bedding were a bonus, but the true indulgence was being present and uninterrupted.

Dining That Feels Special

We explored a nearby pub for lunch, but dinner at Kangan was unforgettable. It certainly is one of the best romantic restaurants in Mumbai for those who prefer quality food and top-class service.

Watching the nighttime skyline while savoring Awadhi Murgh Biryani turned a meal into a memory. Breakfast the next morning was a lavish affair, a buffet so big that even tasting a fraction felt indulgent.

The Subtle Luxury of Service

The staff didn’t go out of their way to impress, it wasn’t a show, but the experience felt seamless. Small touches, like quiet professionalism and attention to detail, made the stay feel effortlessly comfortable.

A Staycation Like No Other

For couples, special occasions, or anyone craving a city escape, Westin Mumbai Garden City proves that luxury, comfort, and memorable personal moments can coexist without leaving Mumbai. We also enjoyed exploring various shopping malls in Mumbai close to the hotel like Oberoi Mall & InOrbit Malad.

You both look like you’re having a wonderful, relaxed time. I love the views from the restaurant.
I think staycations are great — even better when one lives in a large city. I agree that staying in a hotel is the right choice for it. Otherwise, the “daily grind” seeps in and diminishes the relaxation.

Really though, a vacation can be anything you want, if you’re willing to be flexible. Once (when I was driving a car that I had bought new — but NINE years before), I decided to rent a convertible for a 3-day weekend. I didn’t get a hotel, not enough funds for both. But I drove up to a “Bavarian” town in the nearby mountains and took in all the touristy stuff. Back in town the next day, I drove the opposite direction and spent the day at a Rennaissance fair. A wealthy friend (whose husband paid cash for her Lexus car) was annoyed with me, to my surprise. “Why didn’t you take the money for the car you rented and stay in a nice bed & breakfast?” Who knows why she was so bent out of shape about it… My point is, that a vacation can be whatever gets your head out of day-to-day existence. It doesn’t have to be what everyone else does.
Hugs.

Exactly. That was the point. I think people sometimes feel envious of what we do because they cannot do the same, or are not in a position, or never thought to celebrate that way. Thank you for visiting and commenting. Hugs.

It looks like you and Sarah had a great time. It’s a great idea to get away without going far. You’re kind to share this idea in so much detail with others.

We certainly did, Dan. While it was a surprise for Sarah, we both got to experience 5-star accommodation for the first time. Thank you for visiting.
