Honeymoon in Himachal Pradesh, India

Bordered by Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Himachal Pradesh has always been known for its snow clad mountains and chilly hill stations that can beat the Indian heat hands down. The name of the state literally means In the Lap of the Snow and that is why Himachal Pradesh is so popular with tourists from all over the country and internationally as well. As per my personal travel experience, I believe it is a great substitute for all those who cannot afford Jammu and Kashmir which can get quite out of hand at times. The accommodation in Himachal Pradesh is not as expensive as you can find in Jammu and Kashmir although both the locations offer some really great travel experience for honeymooners. These days I am more focused on honeymoon travels as some of my readers are newly married couples and I would like to offer my readers with more honeymoon travel destinations and options that can help them to have the best time possible. It gives me so much pleasure when they comment and appreciate; it’s more than what I can ask for. So, here I go on top 5 best honeymoon destinations in Himachal Pradesh that can offer you value for money experience.

Shimla

Although, I usually write on offbeat destinations where you might not find so much of crowd, but I just could not eliminate Shimla out of the equation this time. If you are in Himachal Pradesh you ought to visit this town for sure. The capital city of Himachal Pradesh is a treat to watch out especially for newlyweds and honeymooners.

Shimla in Winter Snow

Shimla is a great place for all those who are fond of walking. Oh, my wife Sarah just commented that I usually write about walking while readers would prefer to take a cab or just drive their own car. Well, readers you can pick up your mode of transport but I believe walking the small town lanes, beaches, forest areas, and green hilly regions gives you a unique experience as you can explore more than being in the car. In Shimla you can explore the Mall, Lakkar Bazaar, Lower Bazaar, Chhota Shimla and Five Benches Road.

Nature lovers can explore Summer Hill and villages of Kamina and Tattapani. While you are exploring nature do keep an eye on some old buildings that provide glimpse of English Renaissance and Neo-Gothic styles. The Old Christ Church with beautiful stained glass windows remains the prominent landmark of Shimla.

Manali

Almost five hours north of Shimla, you will find Manali that manages to attract more tourists and visitors than Shimla at times mainly because of the activities that are available here. Although, Manali sounds like an expensive honeymoon destination but if you book your accommodation in advance you will get some great affordable deals.

Easily accessible from Delhi and Chandigarh, Manali is no less than heavenly abode that can offer so much more to honeymooners. Rohtang Pass remains the most popular attraction here but there is much more for the travelers as they can enjoy trekking and rafting in the Kullu River. Explore the Hidimba Devi Temple, Manu Temple, and Solang Valley.

Manali also remains one of the popular skiing destinations in the country so newlyweds that love adventure can enjoy skiing here as well. No matter what you do, I would recommend readers to wear some warm clothes all the time. If you want to go shopping you can look out for shops in Manali town which is packed with travelers shopping for momentos and other stuff.

Dalhousie

Although, this is third on the list, Dalhousie remains my hot favorite especially from honeymoon point of view. Nestled between five different hills, Dalhousie is simply breathtaking and intoxicating with the colonial charm that you can still feel around. Named after the British Governor General Lord Dalhousie newlyweds will find themselves in a landscape that words cannot describe.

The magnificent view of Chamba Valley and the mighty Dhauladhar range is something to watch out for when you are here. Let me tell you there are not much activities happening here so it’s kind of No-One-Is-Gonna-Bother-You destination. You can explore places like Dainkund, Panjpulla, Bakrota Hills and Kalatope.

You also get to explore some of the old churches here; St John Church is the oldest of all built in 1863. There are plenty of budget accommodations here so this is an excellent place for all those who want value for money honeymoon experience.

Chail

If you are not too interested in Shimla probably because you might have visited it earlier then try Chail. Chail is around 90 minutes from Shimla and it offers a great honeymoon trip experience without getting into the hustle bustle of Shimla market. Covered with thick soaring deodar trees offers the right landscape that newlyweds look out for.

The location is picturesque and the atmosphere is peaceful around here giving you the right kind of private moments that love birds need. You can enjoy the view of Satluj Valley, Shimla and Kasauli right from Chail. There are not many hotels and resorts here so I would recommend booking your accommodation well in advance. If you love shopping you can always take a cab to Shimla and return to Chail in just few hours.

Chamba

North west of Manali you will find Chamba on the map which is also one of the best honeymoon destinations in Himachal Pradesh that love birds can explore. The best thing about Chamba that it still manages to retain the natural beauty despite so much of tourism happening here.

You will find travelers here throughout the year so I would once again recommend booking your accommodation a bit in advance so that you don’t have last moment accommodation issues. Apart from couples you will also find many adventure trekkers here that come here to quench their thirst for winter adventure and activities. There are many temples around here that visitors can explore like Laxmi Narayan Temple, Chamunda Devi Temple, and Sui Mata Temple. Couples can also enjoy some shopping in the local market as they decide to return.

Wonderful representation! I wonder, do you ever include any links to the hotels, restaurants or cities you review or do they not have websites? When we were planning our first trips to Costa Rica we very often clicked on links to other sites that were in the post. I would have a difficult time choosing between these places. But There is something special about the first one…oh I just realized you probably have links attached to the city names. I am only just now getting acquainted with this feature. 🙂

I have used links of various other official tourism sites, but not on all the posts. There are many other sites where I used to write hotel reviews, but I realized that many people that tried those hotels after reading my reviews, did not enjoy staying at those hotels for multiple reasons. I guess to some extent they must have felt that I wrote a paid review or something, so I decided to keep away from hotel reviews because accommodation is again very subjective matter. Shimla, the first place on this post has remained one of the most popular honeymoon spot in the country for decades now, but Chail, the second last place in the post which is also not too far from Shimla has come up as the second alternative. Many tourists that do not want to stay in the crowd of Shimla, usually go for Chail which is on the outskirts of Shimla and offers a less crowded atmosphere.
