New Delhi is nothing less than chaos during the monsoon season with all that traffic jams and floods that occur in the low lying areas, but I think that is not exactly what Delhi has to offer to its residents and all the people that visit the capital city during the rainy season. I believe every city in the world is very much like that especially in India where people from various small towns and villages land up in metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi for work and to earn their livelihood and on top of it the poor civic administration that does very little to resolve city’s complex problems. Well, I am not here to talk on social and political issues but instead I would like to highlight some great monsoon weekend getaways that are near New Delhi that can help my readers to get out of this urban cacophony and all the stress that they build up during the week.
Shoghi
If you are looking for a weekend getaway near New Delhi you can always look out for some better accommodation in Shoghi that offers the right kind of atmosphere you need to break that rising stress factor. This place is around 12 kilometers from Shimla so you don’t have to worry about the hustle bustle of Shimla as well. The small town is right on the Ambala-Shimla highway so it offers a mini vacation experience to many people that stay close to New Delhi. This place is not highly popular and therefore travelers looking for some offbeat monsoon weekend getaways near New Delhi can enjoy the right kind.
The place is easily accessible through road so you can always pick up your car and head to Shoghi. There are temples around like Kali Temple, Hanuman Temple and Tara Devi Temple that you can visit. Trekkers and nature lovers can enjoy Park Woods that offer better natural landscape for the visitors.
Kangojodi
Not too far from Delhi, around 275 kilometers I believe is Kangojodi which is another not so popular destination that offers weekend getaways near New Delhi. Nature lovers can enjoy this small town that is not too far off from Nahan Shimla Highway. The town offers a great way to beat the stress and enjoy the cool natural climate that enhances during the monsoon time. the pine forest around the town offers a picturesque view so it is an ideal destination for those who have passion for photography and watching local flora and fauna. Visitors can either sit back and relax the monsoon climate or enjoy some trekking and adventure here.
Nahan
Situated on the Shivalik Hills, Nahan is also one of the popular weekend getaways near New Delhi that you can try if you are planning to take a break from work this weekend. Literally, the small town name means Don’t Kill believed to get its name from an ancient incident but Nahan is definitely going to kill your stress when you reach this destination.
Located right in the lap of nature Nahan offers many temples, wildlife sanctuaries, beautiful landscapes and local market that you can enjoy while you are with your friends and family members. Watch out for places like Jaitak Fort, Dhaula Khan and Trilokpur Temple that offer better value for money experience. Nahan is around 235 kilometers from New Delhi and easily connected through road.
Morni Hills
Located in the Panchkula district of Haryana, Morni Hills is another getaway destination close to New Delhi. The folklore here tells that the name Morni was named after Queen Morni that once ruled the region. This small town is 275 kilometers from Delhi and 45 kilometers from Chandigarh so it offers a great weekend getaway destination for New Delhi and Chandigarh residents. Enjoy the scenic hills and monsoon clouds hovering on them and various landscapes that can attract nature lovers and photographers.
Kasauli
Located in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, Kasauli is not too far away from New Delhi. The place is just 38 kilometers from Kalka and offers a cool and pleasant climate that most urban residents desperately need during the weekends to unwind and get ready for the new week to come.
This is basically a sleepy hill station so you won’t find lot of shopping options here but unspoiled natural beauty and nature trails and forest walks can offer you the right peace of mind that you crave for. Kasauli is your weekend getaway destination if you prefer to just sit back and let the nature take over your mind and body.
