The year 2020 has been a rollercoaster ride for all of us. The coronavirus pandemic .a.k.a. COVID-19 situation has forced us to transform our lifestyle in a big way. Festivities are an important part of us as Indians. However, given the circumstances, we need to adapt until the vaccines are out in the market. Well, the Navratri festival is already here, but considering the situation, we need to look for ways of celebrating Navratri at home.
Generally, at this time of the year, my other Navratri blog posts get more clicks where people browse about dandiya destinations in Mumbai and Gujarat. However, this year the Maharashtra government has issued guidelines on not celebrating Navratri publicly on a grand scale considering the COVID-19 situation.
Well, that is a kind of sad news because we love the festivities that bring people together. However, that shouldn’t upset us because as humans we need to adapt and come up with other ways of celebrating Navratri at home.
Here are 5 practical ideas on celebrating Navratri at home in 2020:
Organize Pooja at Home
Organizing a pooja at home can have multiple benefits. It can bring in the positive atmosphere and help you overcome all the negativity you’ve been dealing with.
For this, you can either bring in a small idol of the Goddess Durga. Subsequently, you can decorate an earthen pot and worship it for 9 days. The fun part is that you can decorate these earthen pots the way you want it.
If you don’t want to bring in the idol or an earthen pot you can use the picture frame of the Goddess Durga and worship it.
Make sure that all the members of the family are present during the pooja ceremony that infuses the spirit of togetherness and love.
Try New Recipes
Nothing brings the people together like food. If you are celebrating Navratri at home cooking up some new recipes can add some fun to the festivities. This is a great way to bring the family members together and at the same time breaking up the monotony of cooking.
There is an endless number of recipes that you can find online so you can browse the internet and search for some great recipes that challenge your cooking skills.
If you are on a tight budget, cooking up meals at home is a far economical option than taking your family to the restaurants for dinner.
Shop Online
Believe it or not, but most of us are repeatedly wearing the same set of clothes for nearly months now. Since we cannot really go out on weekends, or for events many people are wearing the same set of clothes.
Now that certain restrictions are gone online stores are delivering products to all parts of the country. Various online brands are offering some great discounts on clothing and therefore you can decide if you want to purchase something for celebrating Navratri at home.
Wearing a set of new clothes can bring in that feeling of positivity and confidence. There are studies that have proved that fashion does impact our mental wellbeing. You might not be able to go for that dandiya night event but it doesn’t hurt to buy new clothes you can wear when you are at home.
Add Some Colour and Light
The coronavirus pandemic has influenced us in many ways psychologically. Hence, a dash of colour and light can make all the difference. If you are celebrating Navratri at home you can focus on some rangoli designs that can help your home look great.
Similarly, you can also add some more light to your home by adding more diyas and candles. These days you can buy some good scented candles in the market and even online that can help you get a pure and serene feeling in your home.
If you love DIY projects you can come up with some craft decorations that you can add to your home to infuse more light and colour in your home.
Spread the Joy
Happiness comes not from what we get, but from what we give. If you are celebrating Navratri at home you might want to think of how you can spread the joy to your friends and colleagues as well.
To begin with, you can actually create some DIY gifts that you can ship to your loved ones, distant cousins and even colleagues. You can dig deeper into your last year’s festival supplies and you can come up with some brilliant ideas that you can recycle and create something from it.
Similarly, you can gift some healthy gifts like chamomile tea along with a tea mug. Furthermore, you can buy some great home décor items that people can add to their home surroundings. All this can help get the best experience as you spread the happiness and joy in the simplest and best way possible.
Conclusion
While the coronavirus situation is far from over, you can still think of celebrating Navratri at home in your own way. These simple ideas might not mean much but they can make a lasting impact on your experiences and bring together people that matter to you or to whom you matter.
Do share your ideas and let me know how you are celebrating festivals at home this year.
