While honeymoon planning seems like an exciting thing to do it can turn into a complex task eventually. With plenty of options and endless information and data, it can make things hard for you. Different couples have different ideas on how to plan a honeymoon and get to their favourite destinations. However, you need to ensure that you have clarity on planning for a honeymoon and using your resources and budget.

Honeymoon planning can get crazy if you don’t know how to ask the right questions. Hence, you must be sure that you know how you can come up with practical thoughts on planning for the honeymoon. A blissful honeymoon is a good thing and it is possible as well. For this, you need to create the right plan and ensure that you stick to it and use your resources wisely.

Here are some practical tips on honeymoon planning that would help you get the best results for your honeymoon trip.

Ask the Right Questions

If you don’t know what you want, you will never get what you want. So, the first practical tip for honeymoon planning is to ask the right questions. For this, you can sit with your partner and discuss certain things that you want and don’t want on your honeymoon trip.

  • What do you want to do on your honeymoon trip? Do you want to have an adventure or just spend quality time quietly?
  • Where do you want to go? On a beach? On a mountain? In the forest? On an island? On snow slopes?
  • How much you want to spend? Keep your budget as realistic as possible because you don’t want to start your married life with a debt.

Talk to People Locally

You need to narrow down your choices to 2-3 destinations. Once you have done that it is time to ask for recommendations and read reviews and testimonials online. Most people would be willing to share their insights and experiences with you. You can use their insights and experiences to make your decisions for honeymoon planning.

There is so much that you can learn from other people and their experiences. You can talk to your married friends and cousins and even parents to help you make clear decisions. This will only help you to have clarity on what you want. You can make points of certain information that you can use for honeymoon planning.

Research Well on the Internet

Before you do the booking you need to research about the destination, hotels and restaurants and everything related to it. This is critical to honeymoon planning because you must have clarity about the place you want to travel to. Find out more about the local weather when you will be there and you can pack clothes accordingly.

Also, you must compare and assess different hotels in the area and what facilities and amenities they offer. Read various room reviews on TripAdvisor and other hotel review sites and check customer ratings. Research about the local food and the restaurants, bars and pubs you have in the locality.

Search for Images by Travellers

Online images can fool you, so be careful about it. There is a vast difference when you look at images by travellers and the establishments. Various hotels and restaurants put up incorrect or digitally enhanced images to lure more customers on honeymoon planning sites. These images instantly appeal to you and compel you to make impulsive decisions. It is advisable that you search for images shot by travellers on their smartphones and digital cameras.

This will give you a realistic image of the actual hotel, restaurant and even the local attractions. You can search for some unedited images on Instagram as well if you search extensively. You can also watch some YouTube videos on the same places and see what the place looks like in the real world.

Plan Your Budget and Set Expectations

There is no doubt that all couples dream of lavish honeymoon experiences, but you got to be practical. Unrealistic honeymoon planning can make things hard for you once you return from your trip. You don’t want to get into money issues at an early stage in your marriage. Hence, you must think practically when planning for a honeymoon.

If you want a dream-like honeymoon you need to start saving early. Discuss this with your partner to ensure you both know your honeymoon expectations. If you are sharing your honeymoon expenditures you must know who pays what before your honeymoon.

Book Early for Your Trip

Honeymoon planning is all about timing and therefore you must plan and book early. When you are planning for a honeymoon you have to find that perfect balance between quality and budget. Most people marry during the winter months and therefore they prefer honeymoon during the winter months. If you are focusing on winter honeymoon in India, you might have to book and plan your honeymoon early to ensure you get the best options.

Honeymoon planning at the last moment would only spike your budget and would not help you get the best options. You can also start saving early for your honeymoon trip to manage your budget in a better way. Once you have clarity on your destination you need to book your hotels and transport to get the best deals. Booking your hotels and flight tickets early will help you get competitive pricing.

Allocate a Day or Two for Nothing

Even if you are planning an adventure honeymoon trip you must always set the first few days to unwind and relax. Never-ending wedding celebrations and parties can make you feel tired and therefore you must plan nothing for the first few days. It might seem that you are wasting a few days of your honeymoon trip, but you will gain from it. This practical honeymoon planning tip would allow you to recover you from the exhaustion and set you in a new mood.

Take a stroll in the mountains or on a beach and explore nature for the first couple of days. Also, you must sleep well to enjoy your honeymoon trip. Avoid hectic itineraries and don’t pack too many activities in a single day. You will not be in a great mood to enjoy your honeymoon trip if you are sleepy and tired. Take your time to explore the local places and eat the right food.

Plan Your Activities and Experiences

If you are not good at honeymoon planning you can certainly pick some of the best itineraries online. However, if you want to have control on your activities and experiences you need to plan it well in advance. Believe it or not, time flies when you are on a honeymoon trip. Planning your honeymoon allows you to optimize your limited time to help you do and experience more.

Schedule your daily activities and experiences so that you have plenty of time to explore the local attractions, enjoy meals and have a fun time. This will add to the overall experience and allow you to spend quality time with your loved one.

Pack Smartly, Don’t Overload

Start making a list of the items you want to pack for your honeymoon trip. You need to focus on clothes, sunscreen, currency, camera, phone and camera chargers and so on. This will help you to have the right experiences when you reach your destination. Packing your luggage at the last moment would only lead to chaos and you might end up leaving something back home.

Also, if you intent to shop more clothes later on, don’t pack more clothes. Since you have already done the research about the place you must know what you might buy and bring home. Always leave some space in your bag for the things that you will shop on your honeymoon trip.

I have to laugh a little, Sharukh. Our honeymoon was taken over 35 years ago. Planning involved buying paper maps, visiting the library and sending letters to the Chamber of Commerce and State Department of Tourism about 6 months in advance, asking for information. We made reservations over the phone at some places we knew about and some we found in the phone book.

I bet that must be fun and hectic at the same time. So, this Chamber of Commerce procedure is applicable even if you travel within the United States? Or you had to do this because you were traveling internationally? I’m not sure where my parents went for a honeymoon, or that they even went in the first place. Metaphorically, I am a LED bulb born to candle chandeliers.
